Privacy Policy

Highmark is a browser extension that lets users highlight and save selected text from webpages.

Data Highmark handles

When a user explicitly saves an excerpt, Highmark stores:

• the selected webpage text;
• the page title, source domain, and URL;
• the selected highlight color;
• timestamps and technical location information used to associate the excerpt with its source page; and
• interface preferences such as language, theme, launcher position, and panel width.

Highmark does not collect passwords, form entries, cookies, browsing history, or webpage content that the user has not explicitly selected for saving.

How data is used

The data is used only to provide Highmark’s single purpose: saving, displaying, searching, deleting, and reopening user-created webpage excerpts.

Storage and transmission

All excerpt data and preferences are stored locally in the user’s browser through chrome.storage.local. Highmark has no account system, analytics service, advertising SDK, or remote backend. Highmark does not upload, sell, share, or transmit saved excerpts or browsing data to the developer or third parties.

Data retention and deletion

Data remains in the browser profile until the user deletes individual excerpts, clears the extension’s stored data, or uninstalls Highmark. Uninstalling the extension removes its locally stored extension data according to Chrome’s behavior.

Permissions

• Storage: saves excerpts and interface preferences locally.
• Active tab: lets the toolbar popup communicate with Highmark on the page the user is currently viewing after the user invokes the extension.
• Website access: Highmark runs on webpages so it can detect user-selected text, display the highlighter, and reopen saved sources. It does not read or save unselected page content.

Children’s privacy

Highmark is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

Material changes to this policy or Highmark’s data practices will be disclosed before the updated behavior is introduced.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

Highmark’s use of information received from Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used only to provide or improve Highmark’s user-facing excerpt-saving functionality.
